  1. Burp in your face??? U are sick! lol.

My style can mostly be described as stylishly sophisticated. I take a STUPENDOUS amount of pride in my appearance, and although not always comfortable, I dress up. A LOT. I stay in black or gray most of the time, and every once in a while may throw in a pop of color with shoes or a scarf, or purse or some’n.

What I like about my style is you can’t really catch me “off.” If I’m having a bad day, I don’t go anywhere.

  3. As a student of communications, the importance of image was branded into my psyche for four years. Is image everything? Maybe not. However, perception is reality and unless you’re completely impervious to the opinions of others, you want that perception to be as close to your reality as possible.

I’m a lot like you, Slim. I don’t really get into trends. I have a young face so I try to counter that with a more classic, timeless wardrobe. I do like to play with my accessories though, so I’ll throw on a leopard print shoe with a blazer and jeans just to add a little flair.

I try not to judge people based on their wardrobe choices, but I do assess how people feel about themselves based on what they wear. If you’re TOO trendy I’m going to assume that you’re TRYING to stand out and trying is always corny to me. If you don’t stand out naturally, then just chalk it up and blend in.

I pride myself on being able to look good in any style and I make sure to exhibit that. I wear tims and jeans and suits and some time i look extra preppy with sweaters and corduroys and sometimes loafers w/ no sock if its summer (i really have the socks you cant see).

As for a woman, I want a woman who dresses in what makes her look good, not necessarily name brand (but a lot of times it easier to look good in name brand) and she has to be flyer than me. Her shoe game has to be something serious too. Chicks w/ serious shoe games are usually cooler.

  5. First off- Where did u get that pic? I was sniggling like a damn fool at my desk.

2nd-I work in the fashion industry, while most of us in the office don’t come to work looking like we belong on the runway, we make an effort to look presentable so that we can be taken seriously by vendors, etc.. I love clothes, shoes, bags etc. but to be honest my wallet holds me back from getting the latest and greatest. I usually shop at outlets and if I do splurge its because the piece is original, functional and enhances my appearance. As for my personal style I am not very trendy, I look for originality in clothes, whether that classifies as trendy- I really don’t care.
I have a bit of an advantage because I am knowledgeable on fabrics and so forth. For example some of you may be surprised to know that many brand name clothing/footwear and generic product is often made within the same factory, with similar materials- you basically pay for the name in most cases. I have also become a cheapskate and I try to get free samples from vendors as much as possible. Image is not everything but we have been conditioned to believe it is. I mean how many of us can honestly say we don’t do that 5-minute read on ppl we first meet.

A friend told me that years ago so I’m not really caught up in the whole designer thing. If I find something I like that looks good on my voluptuous body, I get it.

I only care about the designer or name when it comes to my perfume. I only wear one of two fragrances and that’s Calvin Klein Escape and Issey Miyake…otherwise, for other stuff, it’s whatever looks good.

  7. I LOVE FASHION!!!

Image is not everything, but I put time and effort into my wardrobe. My mother modeled for a time and was definitely a fashionista. Shopping was our way of bonding. It may seem superficial to some but I think it’s no worse a hobby than art collecting. I think the problem with image sometimes is people get caught up in the hype. No designer is flawless (except for Valentino) and there are tons of things out there that are over priced and should never leave the rack. Also having a personal style and being trendy are two different things.

I use clothes to express my personality and I think I have my own personal aesthetic that extends from my wardrobe, to my furniture to everything else in my life. I don’t think you have to spend a ton of money to be fashionable. I pride myself on dressing like a dime for pennies. I may own over 30 clutches (I admit I’m obsessed) I have never paid over $40 for one. I have embossed patent leather, python, butter leathers, hand beaded, alligator, ostrich, the works, but I buy my bags at thrift stores and vintage shops. I buy things dirt cheap at my local goodwill, sell them in NYC at a high end vintage store and then use that money to buy pricier items that I’d like to add to my collection.

As far as the opposite sex I look for a man that has a point of view. Any man who tells you they don’t care about fashion is lying. Take them to a store and have them start putting some things on and trust, opinions start flying out their mouths.

One thing I wish every man would take the time to learn is the basics, meaning: how your clothes should fit, how to properly care for your clothes and how to select quality items that will last.

I’m prolly the worst person in the world to bring along for shopping. I can say what looks decent and what looks awful. That’s about it. Since Victoria decided to keep some of her secrets and not make a bra in my size (yes, I’m blessed), I have no choice but to purchase high end lingerie to a certain degree. Personally I like dressing up to take it off. Some men like it, some don’t pay any attention, but for me it’s not about them, it’s about how I feel in the clothes. That being said, I refuse to pay full price for ANYTHING. My besty went to a La Perla sample sale and said the prices were better than the Vikki’s semi-annual.

I think image/appearance is very important. We all make judgments on people based on what we see. When I see a chick walking down the street, the first thing I notice about her is her appearance cuz that’s all I have to work with.

I try not to be too too trendy when I dress. I just wear what I like or what I think looks good on me. But I can’t stand seeing dudes runnin’ around in these skinny jeans. Look like they borrowed they lil sisters jeans.

@Slim: “I’m not excessively pretty in the face and I can live with that.”

It’s probably because you got that black bar over your eyes. ;) (Facebook)

As far as my style, I LIVE in jeans. I probably have too many of them. I take advantage of each and every casual day we have at work because I love them so much.

Even with work clothes I try to look as fly as I can while staying as comfy as I can. One of my coworkers always complements me on the color of my shirts. I’m really into jewel tones nowadays.

Also, even more than shoes, handbags are my addiction. I think a fly handbag wraps up the outfit, nicely. In fact, I’m surprised I’ve had my most current one as long as I had…I’m tired of it.

As far as guys, a Black man in a corporate suit is my weakness. But, at the same time, if he can look just as delicious in a white tee and sweats, I turn into a geyser melt.

Oh, and any guy’s sex appeal is increased with a fly hat/cap. It’s the LL effect. He looks ten times better in a hat than without.

I ask myself the really important questions about clothes in the morning:

    -is it clean?
-how long has it been on the floor?
-can I get that spot out?
    -am I showing muffin top?
-can I fight a fool in this outfit?

Seriously though, I don’t really like to think about what I have on too much. I’m a fan of heavy markdowns and discount clothing that will hold up past 2 wash cycles. I like my clothes to kind of “disappear” from my mind. Comfortable, stretchy waistband, warm and non-itchy are great. So mostly I’m in turtlenecks (or t-shirts), slacks (or jeans) and wrap dresses (am I the only one feeling the connection between wrap dresses and bathrobes?)

P.S. – that pic is horrible! I heard a song on the radio this morning by Lil’ Wayne talkin’ bout his pants are held up by his puby hairs cuz he has no azz….lawd, lawd!

  11. As far as image. I think I’m also pretty simple. I’m pretty much a simple guy. I like sneakers and jeans. I like polos and sweaters. I’ve never been a label whore, I just like what I think looks good on ME.

I can clean up when I want to and when the occasion calls for it. I don’t understand how some grown men don’t own a suit. It just boggles my mind.

As far as women, I like women who are versatile. They can look good in just about anything and have the confidence when they wear what they have on. Classy but sexy gets it everytime.

The one thing I really can’t stand is to to go a bar, club, etc. and it be cold outside and I see women in short skirts or anything that looks like they might catch pneumonia. I’m way more likely to approach a woman who dresses for the season rather that someone who dresses like she doesn’t have any common sense for the weather.

  13. I like for a person to be themselves when it comes to their style. If you feel good in what you’re wearing, it’ll come across.

As far as my style, I dress like me. If I’m going to a function/church/office/event – I dress up in one of my favorite dresses and throw on some comfortable heels (and the key is comfortable). I like to accessorize. I know when I have on a bad (bad meaning good) pair of shoes to accent my outfit and I admit I add a little more strut in my walk. Find reasons to walk when I could be sitting my butt down…but it goes back to wearing something that I’m comfortable with. On the flipside, if I do wear something to try to impress someone else and I’m not comfortable in it, I do not enjoy the event and I’m feeling ackward.

If it’s a regular day during the week where I don’t have to go anywhere, I put on a pair of jeans and a colorful shirt or blouse and tennis shoes or flats.

I like to see a man well groomed man—whether he’s rocking a suit or some jeans. What I don’t like to see is a man with his pants half-way off his butt.

Image is everything. Its the first thing people see. Ever heard of the mantra “dress for success”. So, you wouldn’t throw a pair of “pearl white” air force ones or “leaned over timbs” to holla at a female.

Yes, I do agree that folks like to put what they consider their best pics up. But if they want to keep up with the jones’ they wouldn’t dare wear that outfit twice. Especially if its all about image on facebook. females dont post pics with hella new growth, and guys dont rock f’d up hairlines and shags in the back in their photos either.

in the opposite sex i do look for someone who’s style matches mine. i’m a style chameleon and it’s adaptable to all situations tho mostly comfortable. his style needs to match. i have a sick shoe collection so it’s kinda necessary for him to have one too. if he does patterns then it needs to be done tastefully and in a non-clashy sort of way… i could probably go on for days about this but either way, it matters to me…

However, as much as I keep my gear fresh and up to date, I believe in comfort more. On any given day, it’s kicks, shirt or hoodie and some jeans. Seeing that I’m about comfort and style, I can’t rock with these new tight jeans trend. Why the hell is it cool to rock women’s jeans as a dude?

I believe in having an image but it isn’t everything. I like my man to have some interest in fashion… love the polos with khaki shorts and adidas, sweaters over button downs, layers with a blazer and loafers. So nice.

My style is more casual chic. I’m not that revealing but I keep it sexy. And I also try my best to match, lol. I can get eclectic at times. I always look different, you can spot me. Love flats but I can rock some heels with my bad knees and clumsy self. I don’t wear much makeup. Powder for the shine, eyelash curler and lip gloss. I’m allergic to most earrings; I wear a staple necklace and a watch my honey gave me on his birthday :-) . Don’t deter too far from that unless I’m going out then I match up the accessories. Not into big name designers but I love BR, ATLoft, Aldo, RL. Try to go to the outlets as much as possible. My new thing is fragrance, but I don’t have a nose for scents. 19. It’s hard describing my style b/c it changes depending on the day. I love all things argyle, houndstooth, and pinstripe (not on one outfit, of course). I could rock a blazer, some dark denim jeans, and a newsboy cocked slightly to the right one day (with heels), and the next day, I could be in a pencil skirt, knee boots, and a silk shirt. I’m petite so I like certain silhouettes. My clothes are fitted (not too tight, but will show my shape).

My hat game is proper (newsboys, preferably. Sometimes berets). I’m addicted to shoes (80+ pairs) and no piece I own (apart from my Northface jacket) is over $200. Shoot, I still got good credit to monitor and a respectable savings account.
