Why I Hate Lil Wayne and Our Justice System
It doesn’t take a person with an incredibly high IQ to realize that our legal system is incredibly effed up. No need for me to site crime statistics or prison rates for any of the minority groups (Pronounced Black and Latino) out there. Some people get what they deserve. Some people get what they pay for. Some people get neither and those are the ones that are truly screwed. These are the regular people out there like you and me more times than not. Then you have those who are amongst the “elite”. I’m talking about celebrities from actors to musicians to athletes, with some being a combination of all 3.
For the purpose of this post, I want to talk about rappers (Really just one). We know actors don’t get jail time because they’re mainly white to busy doing cocaine or hanging out at the pristine local scientology center. The number of athletes getting jail time or becoming actively involved in media-attracting legal disputes increases with their stupidity (shout out to Vick, Arenas, Burress, Williams, and whoever else comes to mind). Rappers, however, have traditionally been hemmed up and locked up. Sh*t. For a good number of them, that’s what sells CD’s and downloads right? You have people like T.I. who can get a jail term that normally involves 12-15 years of their life reduced to a few sets of push ups. Then you have folks like Lil Wayne…that make my blood boil and my sweat sizzle.
How is it that I can’t push back the date of a hearing in an obscure town for a speeding ticket because I need to have my spleen removed, but he can push back the date of his sentencing and the start of his prison term because of a chipped tooth? A tooth that was chipped in a domestic dispute with Baby because Wayne didn’t want to lick his lollipop? I mean they got dental surgeons waying in on how his predisposition to infections because of his love for grills and candy. This not only proves that he is incredibly sweet and that money causes cavities, but that celebrity justice really does reign supreme. And yes, I am hating. I’d love nothing more than to go to court for some foolishness, tell the judge that I need an additional couple weeks because my heels are dry and I need to go to **insert stereotypical name** Nails for a pedicure that needs time to truly set in and be enjoyed.
What’s going to be the next excuse? He realized that his swag dissipated and he needs emotional counseling to build him back up before he goes in? He finally agrees to plastic surgery so that he no longer resembles something between a roach and a muppet? He has to rebrand himself because it turns out that the name “Lil Wayne” was given to him by older women who discovered a minuscule problem below the waist? I’m sure it’ll be something. And just like those who have come before him with lame and lamer excuses, his date will be pushed back again.
Whew. I feel better now. There are multiple ironies in this for me though. I’m all about seeing less Black people go to jail and decreasing the incarceration rate, but I’d love nothing more than to see a judge tell him womp womp and bye bye. The other irony? The shots that I’m taking at him won’t help him sell CDs. Oh well, at least I’m not promoting violence. **shrugs**
What do you think of the concept of celebrity justice? Is the system getting better or worse in it’s dealings with celebrities? Is Lil Wayne really one of the ugliest people alive? Do you think he deserves another month of freedom just because he likes sweet things and wearing Young Money in his mouth? Do you see what I did there?
I’m sorry. This would have been too long for an Eff ‘Em,

These celebs are getting over like a rat within the judicial system. It really does pay to have a good attorney, too. Either way, they are getting special treatment in many instances. My whole thing is, why are celebs putting themselves in these positions where they have to go before a judge in the first place? Its not just black folks either….look at that fool Charlie Sheen. Celebs are outta control these days. As far as Weezy goes, he is trying to delay the inevitable. There will be more delays……Oh, and Weezy has a face that if you look at it from different angles seems to mutate into something more ugly than before….his swag is off the charts tho.

Before 2009, I used to like Lil Payneful-to-look-at. Then he started to over saturate the airwaves and say the same thing on every verse in an autotuned voice…”I am like poop. Cuz I’m the ish. Where’s the toilet bowl bitches?” I didn’t know one man could refer to bodily functions so much and he not be a doctor of some sort.
I think celebrity justice varies greatly. When you look at Plaxico and Mike Vick (and Gucci and Bootsie), the courts punished them almost to the full extent of the law. But then you have T.I. who managed to get “1 year” in jail for creating an WWIII arsenal. So I dunno, it doesn’t surprise that Wayne pulled some strings and got another month. If he had shot someone, maybe things would different…
Or maybe he licked the judge’s lollipop. Yeah. I think that sounds about right.

very good post. The system is flawed and its so strange I had this exact conversation about Wayne being able to “postpone” his hearings and whatnot–only thing I can think of is $$$. Money talks, period. its a shame and I think the system is doing an inadequate job of making examples of certain athletes yet letting rappers come and go as they please (Wayne & TI). I guess they got them good lawyers…

yes they DO have good lawyers which give people more options (as they should)…
… plus he didn’t postpone his hearing, it was the actual sentencing which was postponed. either way, he’s DEF going to jail…

The system is flawed. I dont think its a celebrity thing though. It really is a rich people thing. They can afford the best lawyers and situations like this highlight why poor people end up in jail more often. Its very similar to going to a prep school vs a public high school. Becky at Poly Prep gets caught doing blow and there’s an intervention and at worst she sent from the good prep school to the not good prep school. Tatatalicious gets into a fight at Canarsie and they are calling the police and she’s going to jail. Its nuts
Gucci and Boosie went to jail b/c they weren’t stacking enough to get the best lawyer. Jayson Williams actually shot a man. Arenas is an idiot. White ppl love dogs and it was a fed case (98% conviction rate), so Vick was going down. And Bloomberg made an example of Plaxico

Good points. I initially wanted to say that it was a rich people thing, but it seems like it’s more than that when you look at who gets what. It’s crazy how and when the justice system decides to take action on a particular celebrity.

SJ good post,
It’s no secret our system has a lot of screws loose. I think if you are a rapper and your yearly revenue income isn’t up on the list chances are you’ll be saying wassup to the homes through a solid glass and a phone.
Who remembers when Jay-Z stabbed Un Rivera for leaking out his album. He was found guilt and got no jail time…AMAZING! We can say Remy Ma didn’t have a major bank roll because we all know where she is now.
In addition, I think you need to exclude anyone you named that served federal sentence because federal offense is a one way ticket to jail..white or black

In addition, I don’t care what anyone said he certainly cooperated with the federal authorities. Did he even report to federal prison yet?

good point about the feds. in vick’s case if it had stayed a state case he definitely wouldn’t have done any time–just my opinion….

First of all, the Jay/Un situation isn’t that simple. It worked out the way it was supposed to with the plea agreement.
Secondly, Wayne’s case isn’t a federal case.. it’s a ny state case.

I think the system is flawed, but you will never get a perfect legal system. Money talks at the end of the day. I can’t be mad that dudes have lawyers that can recite latin incantations and utilize Jedi mind tricks to get the best possible situation for their clients. Hell, I lawyered up for speeding tickets, and although my guilt level is questionable, I plan on getting the best deal possible.
Yes its a double standard. Such is life. It aint what you knwo its who you know. Is it wrong? yes and no. yes in a utalitarian Jonathan Bentham way and no in a machiavelian…Machaiveli way.
Know your rights, use your resources, and make this system do what it do.
That Wayne mess is some bull tho

nah yo.. y’all buggin’ (kinda).
Wayne doesn’t even deserve to go to jail (kinda).. especially with all the white collar crime people are getting away with.. it’s absurd. Celebrity justice is one thing..
Police chief didnt even know who wayne was but they wanted to arrest him. Hip Hop police (which really exists) is fulla shit… just another form of profiling. Regardless, Wayne did something wrong (i guess…) and he has to pay for it…
but what’s the big deal that his sentencing/service is pushed back for him to take care of a medical procedure? how can you be mad at him for having lawyers good enough to maneuver that for him?
look, i’m all for niggas NOT going to jail, rather than going to jail.. especially if your crimes aren’t violent and whatnot… and whether you like Wayne or not, what he’s being punished for is some bullshit. just because he plead guilty doesn’t mean he was actually guilty. that’s where the system is whack.

i think the biggest #swindle when it comes to the justice system and celebrities is paris hilton. do y’all remember that debacle? smh.
i guess money talks and everything else walks because that’s the only reason i can see how celebrities (especially black ones) are able to piss in the face of the judicial system. the whole case of jayson williams is a prime example. dude has not done a day of jail yet. he shot his driver and tried to cover it up. let me get caught with a pistol and they’ll bury me under the jail.

1st. I’m reading this during an incredibly boring math class. My heartfelt laughter isn’t appreciated by my classmates. Or teacher.
But hopefully Lil Wayne will eventually go to jail cause at the very least he was found guilty.
Unlike R.Kelly who was clearly friggin that little girl looking directly into the camera may as well have waved hello…being found not guilty.
I’m just saying a guilty sentence at some point he may actually go to jail!

I don’t hate Lil Wayne so my “hate” was mainly directed towards our crap ass judicial system…I’m a Wayne fan but I’m disappointed in some of his personal life decisions. I try not to speak on those too much because he is still a fallible human, much like me. However, I had to touch on this because it was Grade A fuckery on his behalf AND the United States Government.

Perfect.
That is all…regular shmucks like us will never get a fair shake in court (system)! Especially when it comes to guns and drugs. I could go on and on about my disdain and distrust of this US penal system…but I would be here too long and I’m too tired to rant.
