Three Resolutions From Three Ways
The New Year is finally here. 2008 obviously holds a lot of memories for us, seeing that it’s the year we started this wonderful site. Well, that and all the other historical things that happened this year too. Still, we’re anxious to see what the next one holds, like Jenna Jameson in the middle of an Amtrak session.
But before we can drop some cash on a party, watch the ball drop, guzzle a glass of Clicquot and kiss a loved (or semi-liked) one, we’ve got some business to take care of.
The New Year’s Resolutions.
Sowhatiff Jenkins
1. Work on my relationship with God. This means reading the Bible more, going to church on the regular, and making more time for Him in my life. Just like when working on any other relationship, I have to take the time to get to know Him.
2. Look back and move forward. As I get older, its time look to at what I’ve done and been through, take steps to learn from those experiences and use them to make me better woman. This will clearly extend beyond 2009.
3. Get my weight up. Only a little bit though. Yeah yeah. This is the opposite of what most people do going into a new year, but, I’m not most people. Gotta start eating better and not taking my metabolism for granted.
Slim Jackson
I generally don’t even come up with resolutions because they turn out to be generic and I usually falter by month 3 of the new year. However, I think I can be more specific and focused this go around.
1. Get back in athletic competition shape. Not just a gym membership. Not just extra bouncy pecs. I’m talkin’ about bein’ the lean, mean, powerful track and field machine . I still feel like I ever reached my potential in the sport. My day job effed me up in 2008. Won’t let it happen in ’09
2. Grow my savings account by 2K from where it is now and eliminate 50-75% of credit card debt. I don’t got collectors callin’ me, but I’ve made a few “investments” on the plastic that it’d be nice to clear up.
3. Develop my writing and business acumen. I feel like I got a lot of untapped potential with all this writing and website management stuff. 2009 is the year to develop that and turn it into something. Our site is a huge part of that. An award or 2 without compromising our style would be a step in the right direction…
Seattle Washington:
Honestly, I haven’t upheld any of the resolutions I decree within the year itself. I think I just recently covered off on 2006’s. Regardless, I’m a man of tradition so I look forward to accomplishing these in 2010:
1. Making my life simpler. I didn’t get it for Christmas, so it looks like it’ll be a birthday present to myself.
2. (Re)learning Spanish. I’m thankful to my Dominican ex-girlfriend for teaching me essential catch phrases like, “Pass me the rice, please” as well as translating what “morenito lindo” meant, but I figure I should know the actual language. Proper grammar included. I’m saving up for the Rosetta Stone as we speak.
3. Communicating. I’m a living oxymoron – a writer who doesn’t yet know how to express his feelings to those close to him. This year, or more likely in the next couple years, I’m going to work on that. Not only for myself, but also for those who’ve been patiently sticking around to see that day.
OK. Enough of us, what are your New Years Resolutions? Oh and have fun out there kids, just try not to wake up to this on the 1st of 2009…

Hey guys… I don’t normally do resolutions bc I lack the staying power to keep them up, BUT for the sake of entertainment:
1. Make wiser financial decisions: ie. pay off debt, sticking to a budget,
2. Become more vocal: I need to let folks know when they are violating, instead of cutting them off cold turkey.
3. Work on my body: I’m getting chunky and I don’t like it!

Lose 50 Gain 50!
Lose 50…….. lbs, this aint a new years resolution. Cause Will Smith said it best, why wait for New Years… get it in now!
Gain 50…….. 50k outside of my salary. Doesn’t have to be income to myself, but atleast revenue for my T2L Hustle.
I also want to comment on 3waystotakeit earlier. I feel useless when I am comment number 114.
These are going to be hard… but that is what life is

Ok hmmm…I do these every damned year and I don’t ever follow through. I am hoping this year the blog community will help that a bit.
1. I must lose weight. It is truly the healthy thing to do.
2. Finances are a fool. This must be fixed, this 10k in medical debt will be eliminated.
3. Church-I’m all for Jesus…need to show it better.
4. Keep my personal growth going. I’ve come a looooong way in six months. Must. Keep. Pushing.

I dont make new years resolutions. However, I am going to make resolutions that happen to be made on 12/30. They dont have to be completed this year either.
1) Loose 50lbs. I’m actually in pretty good shape but how long can I keep this football weight before I just die.
2) Financial Decisions. My few months of balling are done. All NON STUDENT LOAN will be paid off by March.
3) Get into Harvard. I shoulda went there the first time but I wont mess up on the second go around.
4) Take my black behind to church. No excuse for me to miss it as much as I do, when its two blocks away and they have a nice 12pm service that I can catch.

Hmmm … my goals for the new year are to eliminate credit card debt and be more financially savvy. I also want to explore some of my hobbies and potentially turn them into alternate careers.

I like to call New Year’s resolutions my agenda, just because I mean business when it comes to my life.
I listed my top ten of FB the other day..but for the sake of this blog I’ll put down my the top three
cuz I like to take it three ways#1- Do more volunteer work- I had the opportunity to give back this Christmas, it felt good. The organization asked me to become a regular, B&TT loves the kids so I’m a do it…we don’t need any more murderous lil muthaf%$&az out there- we need to love more!!
#2 – Really push my side hustle- I love to write and I love planning events
#3- Travel & Network a whole lot more (ok that’s two but I feel the two intertwine somehow)…the black social/professional networking scene is virtually non-existent in Toronto, I love the free health care, but damn I need to be stimulated on all levels.

I want a lot of Goodness in 2009! More specifically…
1. Reading Rainbow Goodness: I really want to delve more into leisure reading. I used to read quite a bit, but while I was in college, I convinced myself that I didn’t have the time (since I was busy reading all the required nonsense). I’d like to expand my breadth of knowledge by learning about the most random, yet most interesting things. I want to be able to say “Yea, I read that…in fact, here’s my take on it” more often than I do now.
2. Financial Goodness: As a recent college grad, I’m definitely not where I thought I’d be, financially. My job situation (financially) will change significantly in a few months—which will be great—but I need not adjust my standard of living until my debts are paid and I’m financially sound. The conflict begins and ends with me. I’m pretty good at budgeting, but I’m horrible at resisting things I want, when I see them. I want to get to a place—in the short term—where I can firmly deny myself of that which seems necessary at the moment and instead walk away without feeling that I’m missing out on something. Well…perhaps not when at the Polo store, but yea…financial discipline, that’s what I need.
3. Relationship Goodness: After reading the book, The Five Love Languages for Singles, by Gary Chapman, I’ve realized I could be doing so much more to maintain and even further develop the relationships I have with those close to me. I want to be more attentive and receptive to the unexpressed, emotional needs of my closest friends, and in turn, be able to take preemptive measures to meeting and exceeding those needs, when appropriate. In that same regard, I’m finally learning to open myself up to the possibility of someone—more intimately—doing the same for me.

I am right with you on that financial goodness…i make enough to cover some extras, but i know that when i see something i want, it’s so hard for me not to over-indulge…shopping is definitely one of my vices (i blame it on my mother’s shopaholic ways). I’ve definitely decided to work on that part of my life.

I also don’t make resolutions, I just consistently make goals throughout the year and tackle them as the time passes. My recent goals as of completing this past semester were to read for leisure throughout the break, I have successfully read 3 books for fun and plan to get in atleast 2 more before I get back to “assigned reading.” Other goal of recent is getting back into shape, I am naturally petite, but grad school has totally thrown off my ability to have a work out schedule. I decided to take back control of that and have been working out consistently again. Last but not least, my goal to see more of the world before I begin full time work is fulfilled as I just purchased a 24 day trip to see 15 countries in Europe upon graduation. Overall, I’ll spend 45 days in Europe floating around enjoying life.

Read Eat, Pray, Love..makes me want to take a year off to do it.
It’s within your reach, I just put away a little bit of money each paycheck to start saving and luckily STA Travel has low-cost options for 20-30 year olds.

I just added a new section titled “Very Useful Stuff” to the bottom side of the left column. One of my Twitter folks runs a finance advice blog for women (and I guess it’s applicable to men). Check out her site if you’re looking for tips. I’ll be adding other blog folk that run sites like that to the list.

I never actually made a tangible list before this year. But now since every blog and the blog’s mama is doing it, I decided to be more pro-active. This list isn’t really tangible either (more like cyber-tangible) but anyhow:
1. Be more physically active. Not only just physically active, but creatively physically active. Vary the workouts up with yoga (never did it…but wanna be flexible for um…flexibility…yeah.), dance classes (since I love it so much), and throw in a little strip-tease pole dancing since it’s 2009 and I’ll feel fine.
2. Daily meditation. Kinda goes in with the yoga, but I really need to do this. It works wonders for Mama. That’s why she’s the Dalai Mama.
3. Finally cross the sea. I’ve always wanted to go somewhere overseas and I plan to. Don’t know how, but the “how” doesn’t matter as I’ve learned over the years. It’s that it will be done. So let it be written. Law of Attraction is so dope.
Here’s to a lovely and divine 2009.

1) Be more SELFISH Say whhhhaaat?!?! Yeah, I said it. I resolve to be more selfish, with my time, my energy, my love and my money. I’m that person who does too much for everyone else and not enough for myself. This year I’m taking care of myself. No more stressing myself out at work to the point that I end up going home and collapsing instead of hitting the gym. No more spending all my $$ on birthday happy hours, trips to the point were I’m eating off the dollar menu for lunch cause it’s cheaper, even though I know I should be grabbing that
over pricedsalad. No more blowing my paycheck to visit folksin NYC who seem to think that the Chinatown bus only travels one way, weddings, babies, birthdays, and other extraneous special events, but not having enough money saved up to take a REAL vacation…This year I’m going to play well, eat well, work well, and feel well. I’m down to do things for everyone else, once I’ve done what I need to do for me. So in ’09 I will be replacing fast food with fine dining, long showers with spa appointments, home beauty kits with mani/pedis and exercise tapes with a personal trainer.
2) Get that monkey OFF my back So I have credit card debit most people find laughable, but it ain’t funny when people start harassing you. I have dumb debt from the year I had spotty employment and ended up paying my utilities with plastic (what you know about stale cheese curls for lunch… and dinner). It’s definitely something I can handle in a year I just have to be disciplined about doing it.
3) Find a Home Sweet Home I gotta move… I live in an efficiency apt in the basement of a typical DC row house that could def. use some work. It’s livable but it’s super small and the walls are closing in. We used to get a few mice in the fall when the temperature dropped but now I think they’re trying to take me out…
They’ve put out my pilot light on my stove like 4 times this year. We called Orkin and basically they said it’s an old house so there are a ton of holes and entry points, and it would cost a G to keep Mickey, Fivel, and Despereaux out of the crib and then like $250/mo for like a year to ensure they stay out… for an extra $250 I might as well move… I can’t really afford that right now, but it’s gotten to the point where I wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of something scurrying in my kitchen and yell at the mouse like “WTF?!?!? I’m sleeping!” 1/2 expecting him to then be quiet

My Dad is my landlord… so yeah, he will come over and put down a trap, but that’s about it. He said Orkin was pointless because we’re in a row house, so we can keep our house clean, we can plug up any holes and put down traps, but if our neighbors are attracting mice (and w/ the number of kids they have on both sides living in single family homes there’s not telling what creatures have also moved in)… then we got mice.

I don’t really have New Years resolutions, but I do have some new goals:
1. Save more, spend less.
2. Work out more, eat less.
3. Pray more, stress less.
That’s it.
More concrete goals include
1. Pursue a short-term modeling career before I get too old. I’ve been told too many times by too many different people (strangers, not family/friends) to pass up this opportunity.
2. Travel to Asia. Made possible by couchsurfers.com you guys could check it out.
3. Pursue my artistic talents more to even out the hardcore science courses.
4. Maintain my current GPA while going out more.
5. Comment on ThreeWays articles in a timely fashion more.

Welcome to Three Ways! I can rock with all three of your resolutions. I joined a church..then moved and fell off the map. I prolly should get back on that wagon since I moved back closer to where the church is. Purchasing a home is a bit down the road for me. I can deal with renting for now, but not forever. As for my savings account…I need a new job and bigger bucks.
