The Tea Party Rocks!
Crazy right? Why would a hood rich, limousine liberal like myself say such a thing? Trust me, I’m far from signing up from one of their phone banks, but I have to admit, these guys have a lot of moxie. It’s still early in the election season and these people have a bus going from city to city like your favorite rapper rallying their troops. That’s like a professional athlete showing up for a voluntary off season workout. Yea, I know they look like a bunch of idiots on TV. I’ve actually met some of them and they were in fact complete idiots. (I’m not saying they’re all idiots, maybe it was just the ones I met.) The fact is, these idiots have managed to organize themselves and raise enough money to hire a famous idiot to appear at some of their events, allowing them to motivate and recruit more idiots. Brilliant.
Whether or not you believe the hype Fox reports about the size of the Tea Party’s protests, or what the actual makeup of the movement is, you have to recognize that their rallying point strikes a chord with a lot of mostly racist people in this country. As stories continue to pop up locally and nationally about outrageous government spending, more people are starting to become disillusioned by their elected officials. More than likely the entire movement could fizzle once a black man isn’t President Republican majority is back in power, but for the moment they have a lot of momentum and worthwhile potential to affect the 2010 election and even the 2012 elections if they can sustain their energy. We’ll see how things play out in November.
If the Tea Party used their powers for good, they would actually be of service to the general population. They’re probably not going to reach the point where they decide to form their political party, but the existing establishments could use a shot of the Tea Party’s energy right about now. The bottom line is, they’re getting people involved and engaging people in politics and government affairs. (In the interest of appearing to be fair, I’m going to pretend that the Tea Party isn’t really a right-wing movement.) The problem is, the source of this energy seems to be coming as a reaction to the black commander in chief as opposed to a genuine concern for promoting the common good. President Obama’s election created a tidal wave of involvement from a slew of new voters, but many of those people have either returned to the politically apathetic state or have already become disenchanted with the President because the change they had hoped for was not swift and broad enough for them.
As unfortunate as it sounds, I actually hope that both political parties and groups that seek to serve the greater good can get as fired up for their causes as the Tea Party is to “take their country back”. Of course, throwing bricks at government offices and throwing the N-word at African American Congressmen is not quite the type of behavior I care for, but if the established parties still had the pimp hand they used to, there’d be no tea party. You don’t have to like it, just respect it. Questions? Comments? Concerns?
God Bless America,

The Tea Party frighten me.
I agree w/ “If the Tea Party used their powers for good, they would actually be of service to the general population.”
AND
“…but if the established parties still had the pimp hand they used to, there’d be no tea party.”
So true. If only they could find that gusto… boy, oh boy!

Moxie is indeed what the partiers have. Good thing we’re not in some other country. They would swiftly be silenced. I went to a local rally last week (and not a spot of tea was to be found). What I got out of it is they really, really, really hate the president. I’ve never seen such blatant disrespect toward a person in my life. However, they are quick to point out (every few seconds) the dislike is because of his polices and not his race. Well if you have to keep saying it… The local organizer actually wanted me to join up with the group to reach out to other minorities. Sometimes being the Lone Negro Jones has its downside. No thank you! They do a lot of talking, putting down and complaining, but I never really hear solutions. Unless you count the country needs to go back to the way things used to be. Oh well, I won’t knock their hustle. They’re passionate about their beliefs, and that I can respect, even if it’s not shown in return.

At first I thought the Tea Party types were just lunatics expressing the inalienable rights to be lunatics. Americans always complain about paying taxes so I was like they are just that.
The other day when I found out that 98 % of Americans paid less taxes I just thought to myself It’s not the fact that they have to pay taxes, it’s who they are paying the taxes to that bother them.
The bulk of them seem to be older, well off, and white with “the world has changed around them and they can’t do anything about it” complex. Hence the anger. They are on the I want my country back from [insert scapegoat here] bullsh*t. They are a threat to sensible Americans, but they pose a huge threat to decant Republicans (they do actually exist). The vitriol, lack of civility, and radical ideas aren’t good for the nation.
Never argue with fools.

I see this all the time being the youngest person in my office. These old heads can’t deal with changes. They still can’t understand the benefits of texting over calling….
Let it go Dinosaur.

They won’t let it go. They don’t have anything else to do with themselves so they just get James Evans mad at things they don’t understand.

They’re dangerous and if they could they would drag Obama out of the White House and try to lynch him…I don’t respect their hustle at all…they are organized FOOLS…they don’t have anything else to do…where were they when Bush was in office for eight years? Why didn’t they take back the country then? They are racially motivated..pure and simple. Let them roll thru Philly with that nonsense…..lol

“The “Tea Party” is the KKK 2010.”
this is where i’m at with it because i feel like:
“They are racially motivated..pure and simple.”
it does seem like the tea party is only in existence because obama is now president and they are using hate as fuel to gain followers and press. stations like fox should be ashamed at giving them press but we all know what their agenda is. check out this nas video about fox network:

The greatest trick the Republican party ever pulled was to convince people they don’t spend money just as recklessly as Democrats. The difference is in how they spend the money, and who retains the biggest benefit.

And for their second act, they are going to attempt to convince everyone that regulating Wall St. is a bad idea, right in the middle of Goldman Sachs get hemmed up by the SEC for the little bait and switch tactic that ran the economy into the gutter.

For one, that bus you hear about is not actually affiliated with the Tea Party.
The Tea Party Express is sponsored by a Republican PAC who, knowing the avg Joe won’t really check their credentials and will give them money and be duped by the inclusion of “Tea Party” jumped on the bandwagon. Some of the Tea Party starters are less than happy because obviously they don’t see a dime of the money.
This is called the GOP making money off everybody and they mama.
I respect the Tea Party folks for getting involved. I don’t respect the GOP for trying to jump on that bandwagon. They’ve been playing a whole lot of “me too” (see Michael Steele, which btw, I KNOW they’re wishing they had never done) lately. They want in on the grassroots stuff.
And honestly, if the Tea Party people weren’t so effin crazy and racist as hell (not to mention gullible) I might have to take a minute and take them seriously. I mean taxes are a b*tch and should I ever reach the tax bracket I feel I’m destined for (either by marriage or hard work or questionable practices) I REALLY know I’ma be mad. I do think that government can’t fix everything (I’d like to see our tax dollars focused instead of a whole lot of “let’s see what happens) and I’m always down for more local control.
However, I think about what President Clinton said recently concerning the current political climate. It’s a lot like it was this time in 1995 when Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people, too many of whom were children (Mass murders burn me up, but mass murdering of children make me really think of some bad ways to kill the purpetrators).
We recently had a guy fly a plane into a government building and we barely bat an eye (mostly cause he was white instead of Muslim like the media likes ‘em). So until some of this extra-ness calms down, I can’t give the tea party the time of day.
The minute you say “I want my country back” I quit listening, cause I don’t know who has it, exactly, that shouldn’t have it.

Good job, RCLS. Now, there are Ann Coulter ads on the sidebar. You know, I find The Boondocks portrayal of her more believable than the racist a$$hole she appears to be in real life.
I don’t have a problem with most of the tea party members, the non-racist Americans who are marching behind something they think they believe in. I have more of a problem with the fact that they are being led by very rich individuals who have their own agendas. This is my issue. The protesters are being sold lies and propaganda (death panels, socialism, Hitler?) by rich conservatives. The rich folk don’t have anything to lose. The same can’t be said for the average tea partier.

I have one comment. Marc Lamont Hill said on twitter yesterday “The saddest part about these groups is that they’re often driven by elites but animated by poor whites operating against their own interests”

Did anyone see the CBS Sundaymorning piece (II) on the Tea Party? An independent group did an excellent survey on them, that really shows who they are: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20002529-503544.html
The first and most imporant thing you have to know about them: They make up 18% of the country. 18%. That is not a majority. As a result, they have to stop with this take back our country. When my Dems lost in 2004, I had to shut up and take the decision of the country. You lost the most historic election of all time! Shut up. You can’t tell me that the elected officals are not listening to you, b/c they are doing what they said they were going to do when they got elected. You claim to hate Facism, but supposedly you hate Democracy too.
I don’t like streching the national debt. But the fact of the matter is, its really Obama’s only weak issue. If you followed Wall Street you’d realize the economy is actually pretty good (he gets no credit for this).
I fight fire with fire. If they are going to say bad things about the left, I am going to say bad things about them, and I’ll actually back up what I say with past facts and not maybes or estimations.

I was talking with someone about this just yesterday. It’s less about taxes, which is what they’re supposed to be based on, and just the fact that they don’t want change.
“Let’s take our country back.” is code for “Let’s get the White man back on top.” It’s not just the fact that there’s a Black man in office, that’s just the cherry on top. Brown and Black people are taking over the country and are no longer relegated to just the coastal states and big cities.
It’s a bit different when Jumaul and Pedro are your neighbors and not just on MTV.
But then again, I’m just a cynical liberal. What do I know?

Couple people mentioned that they respect the org. How can we as a people respect a group that has members who are racists, homophobic and xenophobic in any way? Members of this group hate people of color based on the way that we look as well as a host of other reasons. These people are scary and if there not in the Klan they are close to joining. When these knuckleheads are calling John Lewis(a civil rights hero) a ni**er and spitting on another congressman these people are not well. I’m sure there are probably good people in this group but I feel like I gotta a problem with a lot of them.

This was the moment that proved their short-sighted stupidity. Why would you hurl a racist insult at John Lewis.(No one has ever done that before.) It didn’t break his spirit then why would it work now. I’ll compare that to when the Taliban bombed London in 2002. Why you use bombing as a tool of intimidation against people who have been bombed hundreds of times in the last 100 years.
